We are thrilled to have Rochelle, one of the Mom’s featured on One Born Every Minute as a guest blogger this week. Here is her story and experience at Riverside Methodist Hospital in her own words:
We don’t try to be controversial, it really is just a situation where our lifestyle tends to elicit the opinions of others. So the expectation was that when my wife and I went to Riverside to deliver the twins that I was carrying we would encounter some individuals who would respectfully disagree with what we were doing. I am happy to say that was not at all the case. From the initial visit with Dr. Vanek in my 9th week of pregnancy to my delivery at week 36, I received nothing but love and encouragement from the staff (even when it was revealed that my situation was a little unusual). For those unfamiliar with my story, my wife and I did artificial insemination with two different donors (one black and one white).
Chrys, our nurse, was fantastic, extremely open minded, super curious, and highly supportive when we broke the news. She promised that she would be there for me every step of the way and she kept her word which was important to me because I was a first time mom and extremely nervous.
We all bonded in the operating room as everyone placed bets about who would be the father of the twins, supposedly Corene won but that’s another story for another day. All in all my experience was phenomenal to the point that I’d even consider having more children and if I did I would choose Riverside and Dr. Vanek (and Chrys if I had the option).
We went in expecting to bring home two new additions to our family and somehow ended up adding the entire staff and for that we are truly grateful.
